The Youngstown State baseball team scored two runs over the final two innings to break a 2-2 tie and earn a 4-2 victory over Oakland on Saturday at the Oakland Baseball Field.

The Penguins evened the Horizon League weekend series at a game apiece after falling 11-6 in the opener on Friday. YSU improved to 10-16 overall and 3-2 in Horizon League play while Oakland fell to 12-13 and 5-3 in league action.

Each team scored twice in the fourth inning and the score remained the same until the top of the eighth inning when Andre Good hit a one-out double and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Dylan Swarmer to give YSU a 3-2 advantage.

Youngstown State added an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning when Eli Brown hit a one-out single, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on an RBI single by Seth Lucero to push the Penguins' lead to 4-2.

Nathan Ball came on to retire the side in order in the bottom of the ninth to earn his sixth save of the season. Chad Coles earned his first victory of the season after allowing one hit over 2.1 scoreless innings of relief. Coles retired the side in order in the seventh inning.

YSU starter Travis Perry allowed two runs on three hits with two strikeouts and three walks over five innings of work. The senior right-hander retired the side in order in the second and third innings. Alex Cardona retired the only two batters he faced in the sixth.

Lucero and Padraig O'Shaughnessy each had two hits and an RBI to lead YSU's offensive attack. Good doubled, walked and scored twice while Braeden O'Shaughnessy extended his hitting streak to eight games with a double. Brown and Steven D'Eusanio each singled and scored a run.

The Penguins grabbed an early edge with two runs in the top of the fourth inning. Good and D'Eusanio drew back-to-back one-out walks and Padraig O'Shaughnessy followed with an RBI double to center field. D'Eusanio was able to score when Swarmer reached on an error to give YSU a 2-0 lead.

The Golden Grizzlies responded immediately with two runs on two hits in the home half of the fourth inning. Gabe Lux drew a leadoff walk and Brad Goulet followed with a base hit to set up an RBI single by Brandon Nigh. Goulet would then score on an RBI groundout by Brenton Phillips to even the score at 2-2.

Oakland starter Jacob Wosinski allowed two runs, one of them earned, on five hits while striking out four batters over five innings. Brandon Decker took the loss after surrendering one run on one hit and three walks while striking out three batters in 2.1 innings of relief. Ben Paugh was responsible for one run on two hits over 1.2 innings.

The Penguins and Golden Grizzlies will conclude their three-game Horizon League series on Sunday at 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on YSNLive.com.
