YSU Baseball Staff to Host Youth Camp on Aug. 5; Fall Prospect Camp on Sept. 20

The Youngstown State baseball coaching staff will be hosting a pair of camps in the coming months at the Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS) on campus.

YSU's coaching staff will host a Penguin Baseball Youth Camp on Wednesday, Aug. 5, before hosting a Fall Prospect Camp on Sunday, Sept. 20.

The Penguin Baseball Youth Camp on Aug. 5 is intended for players from a young age group to teach fundamentals and culture taught by the YSU baseball coaching staff. The camp is designed for the Youngstown baseball community to become familiar with the program and the facilities at YSU. The camp is also intended to help lay the groundwork and base for a potential future student-athlete at Youngstown State. Campers will receive hands-on, all-skills training from YSU coaches and players.

The Penguin Baseball Youth Camp will feature instruction on hitting, defense, pitching and base running. There will be MVP Awards given out, and each camper will receive an official NCAA baseball. The camp's first session for ages 6-10 will be from 1-4 p.m. with check-in from 12:30-1 p.m. The second session for ages 11-13 will be from 4:30-7:30 p.m. with check-in from 4-4:30 p.m. The cost for the Penguin Baseball Youth Camp is $122 per participant.

The Fall Prospect Camp on Sept. 20 provides a great opportunity for players to receive elite instruction from the YSU baseball coaches and current players, participate in drills, develop a routine and see the work that collegiate players are expected to handle. The camp will feature a 60-yard dash, infield/outfield skill development, catcher pop times, bullpen sessions and batting practice.

The camp's first session will feature pro-style workouts and defensive instruction from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. with check-in at 7:30 a.m., and the second session will feature offensive instruction and batting practice from 1-4 p.m. The camp is open to participants in grades 8-12 as well as junior college players.

Fall Prospect Camp Costs:

  • Position players: $191
  • Pitchers only (First Session): $164
  • Two-way player (Position and Pitcher): $212

For both camps, each camper must bring all necessary baseball equipment. Players should bring a glove, bat, batting gloves, helmet, running shoes or turf shoes, hat and any other equipment they feel necessary to compete. Please mark the camper's name on all items. The camp is not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen belongings.
