Bowling Green, Ohio - Emily Dixon shot a final round 71 on Sunday to claim medalist honors at the two-round Dolores Black Falcon Invitational hosted by Bowling Green at the Stone Ridge Golf Club.
Dixon was tied second with an opening round 74 on Saturday three shots behind Toledo's Sathika Ruereong. However, Ruereong shot a 76 on Sunday and Dixon was able to hold off the Rockets' Manisa Isavas by one shot. Dixon, who transferred to YSU from Toledo last year, won the event with a two-round total of 145.
The Rockets did take first in the team standings with a 606 as the Penguins shot a strong 609. This was YSU's final competition before the Horizon League Championships and it was 20 shots better than Detroit and 23 ahead of Oakland in the event. The Penguins also finished in front of Cleveland State and UIC.
Aislynn Merling was seventh in the tournament a 151 following rounds of 76 and 75. Allison Mitzel was 11th carding a 153 with scores of 77 and 76. Freshman Courtney Shutt continued her strong play of late firing a 161. Shutt opened with an 82 on Saturday before firing a 79 on Sunday. Emily Rohanna rounded out the team finishes with a 162 following a pair of 81's to finish 36th. Mia Barchetti rebounded with a strong second round 79 and shot a 171 for the event.
The Penguins open play at the Horizon League Championships on Friday, April 24.
