Pittsburgh, Pa. -- The Youngstown State cross country teams opened the 2012 season on Saturday morning at the Duquesne Duals. Pacing the women was Anna Pompeo who placed sixth while Nick Gliha led the men with a 14th-place performance.
For the women, Pompeo successfully finished in sixth place with the time of 18:54. Newcomer Monica Ciarneillo completed the course in 13th place with a time of 19:14. Also placing in the top 20 was Brittany Stockmaster who was 19th clocking a time of 19:50. Other finishers included Katie Heney who was 25th (20:06), Nelly Yegon who was 31st (20:28) while Ashley Smith, Jilllian Smith, Paige Eckman and Samantha Atwood also competed.
Gliha paced the men's team with a time of 27:48 and finished in 14th place, and Kyle Joynes finished in 18th place with a time of 28:13. Other finishers for the men included John Hutnyan (33rd - 29:22), Jerry Dugan (36th - 29:33), Lance Ronghi (40th - 29:55), Ryan Pavlicko (45th - 30:05), Aron Korir (51st - 31:11) and Ryan Sowards (54th - 31:24)
YSU will be running in the Tommy Evans Invitational that will take place on Sept. 6 in Akron, Ohio.
