Louisville, Ky. -- The Youngstown State men's and women's cross country programs competed against some of the nation's top programs on Saturday morning at the NCAA Division I Pre-National Meet at E.P. 'Tom' Sawyer State Park, the site of the 2012 NCAA Championships.
The women placed 22nd out of 27 teams in the Black Unseeded 6k event while the men were 27th in the Unseeded 8k competition.
For the women, Monica Ciarniello finished 57th with a time of 22:32.6, Brittany Stockmaster was 78th clocking a time of 22:53.6, Katie Heney was 10th with a time of 23:16.9, Nelly Yegon placed 117th with a time of 23:24.7, Jillian Smith was 176th at 26:17.5, Ashley Smith placed 177th at 26:30.5, Samantha Atwood was 178th with time of 26:37.9 and Paige Eckman ran a 26:55. Anna Pompeo did not compete because of injury.
For the men, Nick Gliha was the top performer once again. Gliha placed 69th with a time of 24:55.6. Other runners for the Penguins included, John Hutnyan who was 128th with a time of 26:42.7, Kyle Joynes was 148th running a time of 27:31, Jerry Dugan was 152nd with a time of 27:44.5, Vince Corn finished 157th with a time of 28:25.7 and Ryan Pavlicko was 160th at 29:03.6.
YSU is next in action at the Horizon League Championships later this month.
