Kenosha, Wis. - The Youngstown State women's cross country team finished third while the men were seventh at the 2012 Horizon League Cross Country Championships on Saturday.
The women were led by Brittany Stockmaster who finished eighth with a time of 18:33. Finishing just outside the top 10 was Monica Ciarnello who was 11th clocking in at 18:42. Katie Heney was 14th with a time of 18:50 while Nelly Yegon was 25th at 19:21.
Stockmaster, Ciarnello and Heney were named to the Horizon League's second-team.
Other runners for the Penguins were Ashley Smith who was 58th at 21:20, Samantha Atwood placed 60th with a time of 21:22 and freshman Paige Eckman finished 61st at 21:30. YSU's Anna Pompeo did not run in the event because of injury.
For the men, sophomore Nick Gliha was the top finisher coming in 17th with a time of 26:04. Other finishers for the Penguins were John Hutnyan who posted a time of 27:05 to place 41st, Jerry Dugan who was 44th at 27:37, Kyle Joynes placed 45th with a 27:40, Ryan Pavlicko was 49th at 28:44, Vince Corn posted a time of 29:11 to finish 53rd while Ryan Sowards was 56th at 29:26.
YSU ran four freshmen and three sophomores at the championship meet.
