Youngstown, Ohio — Youngstown State bowling student-athletes Kara Beissel and Amy Chrzanowski have been named to the Academic All-District® Women's At-Large team, selected by College Sports Communicators. The award recognizes student-athletes for their combined excellence in both athletics and academics.
Beissel and Chrzanowski are Academic All-District selections for the first time in their careers. They become the fifth and sixth Youngstown State bowlers to earn the distinction, joining Jade Cote (2024 and 2025), Sarah Florence (2021), Madyson Marx (2023, 2024 and 2025) and Kirsten Moore (2023, 2024 and 2025).
Beissel, a native of Ormond Beach, Fla., who is majoring in criminal justice, led the Penguins in total frames with 1,233 as a sophomore in 2025-26. She placed in the top 50 individually at seven of YSU's eight regular-season tournaments, including four in the top 30. She averaged 193.20 in traditional play, and her 277 against Wichita State at the Big Red Invitational was the highest game by a Penguin during the season. Beissel was YSU's primary anchor, and she posted a team-high 20.28 average in Baker frames.
Chrzanowski was a key part of the lineup in her first season as a Penguin and was named the Conference USA Newcomer of the Year as a junior in 2025-26. She ranked second on the team with 1,086 total frames while also leading the team in fill percentage and single-pin spare percentage. The native of Colonie, N.Y., who is majoring in biological sciences, averaged an impressive 198.15 in traditional play with a team-best 19 games over 200, and she averaged 19.76 pins per frame in Baker play. Chrzanowski placed 15th individually at three tournaments, and she was named to the All-Tournament Team after placing fifth at the Big Red Invitational.
The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes at-large honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA — in the sports of Women's Beach Volleyball, Women's Bowling, Women's Crew/Rowing, Men's and Women's Fencing, Women's Field Hockey, Men's and Women's Golf, Men's and Women's Gymnastics, Men's and Women's Ice Hockey, Men's and Women's Lacrosse, Men's and Women's Rifle, Men's and Women's Skiing, Men's Volleyball, Men's and Women's Water Polo and Men's Wrestling.
