Mason Reaches Match Play at U22 Queens

Orlando, Fla. — Youngstown State's Amber Mason finished 12th during qualifying and advanced to match play at the 2026 United States Bowling Congress U22 Queens at Boardwalk Bowl over Memorial Day weekend.

Mason was plus-33 after the first round of qualifying, posting a seven-game total of 1,433 on Friday afternoon. The rising sophomore from Woodbridge, Va., then fired a 1,507 on the fresh oil Saturday morning to bring her qualifying total to 2,940 over 14 games. Mason averaged 233 over her final five games on Saturday, highlighted by a 256 in game four and a 246 in her final game. She was 89 pins above the cut line to advance to match play on Sunday, and she was just four pins shy of earning an invitation to Junior Team USA.

Mason dropped her opening-round match of the two-game match play format 406-321 to Jennifer Chiarillo, and she fell 389-384 in the elimination bracket to Erin Klemencic.

Mason was one of three Penguins who competed at the U22 Queens event. Kara Beissel placed 37th in qualifying and finished with a 1,482 block in round two to make a push toward the cut line, and Liv Baskin finished 63rd.
