Men Cruise To Seventh Consecutive #HLTF Outdoor Championship

Rochester, Mich. – The Youngstown State men's track and field team won its seventh consecutive outdoor Horizon League Championship as the three-day event concluded on Sunday at the Elaine Lehigh Track and Field Complex.

The Penguins finished with 264 points while Purdue Fort Wayne (129.5) and Milwaukee (121.5) finished second and third. The Guins won the title by 134.5 points.

Winning events on Sunday were Brayden Green (triple jump), Micah Mitchell (110m hurdles), Lukas Lang (pole vault), Levi Glassmeyer (hammer throw) and Trenton Shutters (800m). YSU also took first in the 4x100m.

Earning second-place finishes were Patrick Burgos (5,000m), Mitchell (400m Hurdles), Jak Rovan (4.80m) and Isaiah Barker (high jump)

100m – Caedeon Trotter finished fourth with a time of 10.89 in his first HL final.

200m – YSU had three of the top seven finishers. Trotter was fourth with a time of 22.01 seconds while Shamir Rose was fifth (22.07) and Logan Butcher was seventh.

400m – Butcher earned a solid third-place finish in the event with a time of 47.41 seconds while Rose placed fourth.

800m – Shutters led from start to finish in the race and came home with a time of 1:50.77 for his second straight win at the outdoor championships.

1,500m – Blaze Fichter had a top-five finish placing fifth with a time of 3:53.22 while Connor Shingleton was seventh.

5,000m – Patrick Burgos had a strong second place effort with a time of 14:23.45.

110m Hurdles – Mitchell posted a time of 14.14 seconds to win his first outdoor title. Michael Ballone placed third (14.44 seconds) and Clancy Chrystal (14.45 seconds) was fourth.

400m Hurdles – Mitchell posted a time of 52.37 seconds while Chrystal was third with a time of 54.31 seconds and Ballone was fourth at 54.42 seconds.

Hammer Throw – Glassmeyer won with a throw of 55.09m. Five of his six throws were over 53.00m and would have won the competition.

Pole Vault – Lang repeated by clearing 4.80m. Rovan also cleared 4.80m in his outdoor debut to finish second.

High Jump – Barker cleared 2.04m to finish second in his outdoor debut. Noah Crozier earned a fifth-place finish clearing 2.01m.

Triple Jump – Green won the event on his last jump with an effort of 14.77m. Emmanuel Asabere came in fifth with leap of 14.24m.

4x100m – YSU ran to the title with a time of 41.05 seconds. The four races for the Penguins were Mitchell, Rose, Butcher and Trotter.

4x400m – YSU finished third in the race with a time of 3:16.06.
