Lexington, Ky. – Youngstown State's Sage Vavro broke his school record to finish an impressive 15th in the steeplechase at the NCAA East Prelims on Friday evening at the UK Track and Field Complex.

Competing in the third heat, Vavro ran a time of 8:42.77 which placed him fifth in his race and was just over three seconds off a top-12 qualifying time.

Vavro had the third-fastest finishing lap clocking a time of 1:06.06 to conclude the race. He ran a 1:08.66 on lap seven which moved him up the field.

Vavro's previous-best time came on March 26 of this year when he ran a 8:47.06 which had eclipsed a school mark that had stood since 2009.
