Columbus, Ohio -- The Youngstown State women's golf team concluded play on Saturday in the two-day Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational at The Ohio State University Golf Club's Scarlet Course.
The Penguins finished the two-day, 54-hole event with a three-round total of 963 (+99) to finish 12th on the team leaderboard. YSU opened its final tournament before the Horizon League Championship with single-round team scores of 320 and 312 in the first two rounds, respectively, on Friday. The Guins recorded a 331 in the third and final round on Saturday.
Sofia Perez Escarcena finished tied for 35th with a three-round score of 235 (81-75-79) to come in as YSU's top individual. The sophomore's second-round 75 featured 10 pars and three birdies as she carded an even-par 36 on the back nine.
Maddi Shoults placed 49th with a three-round total of 239 (76-79-84) while Neeranuch Prajunpanich tied for 57th with a three-round 244 (83-78-83).
Valentina Peña Anaya turned in a three-round score of 247 (80-80-87) while Bella Saur finished with a 258 (87-86-85).
No. 36 Ohio State claimed its home tournament title at 26 over par with a three-round team total of 890. No. 25 Iowa State finished two shots back of the Buckeyes as the runner-up with an 892 while No. 30 Kent State placed third with an 894. No. 40 Michigan State finished fourth with a 903 while Xavier rounded out the top five with a 905.
Xavier's Madison Reemsnyder earned individual medalist honors at three under par with a three-round score of 213 (73-72-68). Ohio State's Nellie Ong was the individual runner-up with a three-round total of 215 (69-70-76).
Youngstown State will now begin preparations for the 2026 Horizon League Women's Golf Championship, which is scheduled for April 25-27 at Mission Resort + Club in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla.
