Penguins Finish Second; Place Two in Top 10 at 2026 Horizon League Championship

Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla. -- The Youngstown State women's golf team finished in second place at the 2026 Horizon League Women's Golf Championship at Mission Resort + Club, which concluded on Monday.

YSU finished with a three-round total of 945 following a final round 320. Oakland won the title for the third consecutive year with a team score of 933. The Golden Grizzlies carded a final round total of 317. The Penguins fended off Northern Kentucky for second after the Norse shot a 315 on Monday to finish one shot back in third with a 946.

Individually, Neeranuch Prajunpanich finished in sixth place while Valentina Peña Anaya came in ninth giving the Guins two placers in the top 10. Maddi Shoults also added a 12th-place effort at the competition.

Prajunpanich had her best round of the tournament on Monday carding a three-over par 76 to finish with a three-round score 232. She opened play with a birdie at No. 1 then followed with a pair of pars before a bogey at the fourth. She rebounded with a birdie 5 and also added a birdie at No. 7 to fire an even-par 36 through nine holes. She had six pars and three bogeys on the back nine. Entering the last round, she was in 11th place and her strong play moved her five spots up the leaderboard.

Peña Anaya moved up three spots to finish in the top 10 with a three-round score of 234. On Monday she had her best round as well with a 77. She opened the round with seven straight birdies before a pair of bogeys gave her a 38 after the first nine. To start the back nine, she had three pars followed by a birdie at No. 13 and a par at 14. She closed her round with three pars in five holes.

Shoults came in 12th with a three-round total of 237. On Monday, her round was highlighted by birdies at No. 7 and No. 14 while adding six pars.

Sofia Perez Escarcena finished with a three-round score of 246 to finish 23rd. On Monday she had a birdie at No. 14 and eight pars for her final round.

Bella Saur returned to the lineup and had a final round 83. She had a birdie two on the par-3 12th and finished her round with five consecutive pars. She also parred four of her first five holes.

IU Indy's Yanah Rolston took home individual medalist honors. Rolston won a playoff over Detroit Mercy's Ariel Chang after both finished with scores of 229.
