Charlottesville, Va. – Shamir Rose won the 200m dash to lead the Youngstown State men's and women's track and field team at the two-day Virginia Challenge which concluded on
Rose clocked a winning time of 21.64 seconds. He took first place by 0.03 seconds.
Brayden Green had a career-best leap of 15.10m in the triple jump. He becomes just the second jumper in school history to break the 15.00m. His previous best leap was 14.99m.
Ava Reeves ran a career-best time of 11.95 seconds in the 100m. In the 100m hurdles, Ava Littler had a personal-best time of 14.40 seconds. Littler later ran a personal-best time of 25.66 seconds in the 200m.
Isaiah Barker had a career-best leap of 7.28m in the long jump. Brandon Hutchinson had a career-best throw of 53.23m in the javelin.
In the 110m hurdles, Michael Mitchell finished seventh with a season-best time of 14.06 seconds. Hutchinson had a time of 14.41 while Michael Balone clocked a time of 14.53 seconds. In the 400m hurdles, Mitchell clocked a time of 53.42 seconds while Balone was right behind at 54.22 seconds.
Ainsley Hamsher tied her season best with a mark of 4.03m in the pole vault invitational to finish tied for eighth.
In the men's pole vault, Jak Rovan was fourth with a career-best mark of 5.02m while Lukas Lang also cleared the same height.
In the men's high jump, Noah Crozier was fifth with a mark of 2.01m while Connor Durig also cleared 2.01m.
This week, YSU will have athletes at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia and at the Ashland Alumni Open.
