Women’s Golf Continues Spring Slate Friday and Saturday at Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational

The Youngstown State women's golf team will continue the spring portion of its 2025-26 season on Friday when it begins play in the two-day Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational at The Ohio State University Golf Club's Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.

YSU matched the single-season school record with its fifth tournament victory of the season at the YSU Spring Invitational, which concluded on April 6 at Trumbull Country Club in Warren, Ohio. The 2025-26 season marks the second consecutive campaign and the fifth time in program history the Penguins have won five tournaments in a single campaign. The Guins have now won five events in a season four different times under head coach Nate Miklos, who also guided his team to five tournament victories in 2020-21, 2022-23 and 2024-25.

Valentina Peña Anaya claimed the third individual tournament win of her career with a two-round score of 149 (74-75) at the YSU Spring Invitational. For her performance, the sophomore was named the Under Armour Horizon League Women's Golfer of the Week for the second time in her career on April 9. Peña Anaya became the fourth different YSU player to earn an individual tournament victory this season.

The tournament field at the Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational will feature 13 other schools including Ball State, Harvard, Indiana, Iowa State, Kent State, Michigan State, Northwestern, Ohio, Ohio State, Rutgers, Toledo, Western Michigan and Xavier.

The teams are scheduled to play 36 holes on Friday and 18 holes on Saturday in the two-day, 54-hole event. Play is slated to begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. each day. The course will play approximately 6,319 yards and par is 72. Live scoring will be available via Scoreboard by Clippd through links posted on YSUsports.com.

Head Coach Nate Miklos has announced that YSU's five-player lineup will feature Neeranuch Prajunpanich, Maddi Shoults, Peña Anaya, Bella Saur and Sofia Perez Escarcena.

Peña Anaya, Perez Escarcena, Prajunpanich and Shoults have competed in each of the 10 tournaments YSU has played during the 2025-26 season while Saur has participated in nine events.

The Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational will be YSU's final tournament before the 2026 Horizon League Women's Golf Championship, which is scheduled for April 25-27 at Mission Resort + Club in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla.
