Smyrna, Tenn. — Youngstown State's bowling team won its final three matches of traditional play as the Music City Classic continued on Saturday at the Smyrna Bowling Center.
The Penguins averaged 200.6 per game as a team over their final three matches to finish qualifying strongly. YSU went 3-2 in head-to-head play on Saturday and finished qualifying in 13th place in the field of 34 teams.
The Penguins averaged 186.4 in their first two matches, falling to Jackson State and No. 7 Maryville. YSU's best set came in its third match, a 1,025-912 victory over No. 13 McKendree, and it ended the round with wins over FDU and Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Liv Baskin was the Penguins' top individual on Saturday, posting a five-game set of 1,046 to place 17th. A freshman from Elk Mound, Wis., she fired the two highest games of her collegiate career on Saturday with a 246 against Wisconsin-Whitewater and a 241 against McKendree. Amber Mason tied for 43rd, and Kara Beissel joined her in the top 50 by tying for 48th.
Youngstown State will take on Tulane to begin Sunday's best-of-seven Baker bracket at 9:55 a.m. ET.
