Youngstown State's men's track and field team set new meet records for total points and margin of victory and cruised to its 11th consecutive Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championship on Sunday at YSU's Watson and Tressel Training Site.
The Penguins scored 279 points, topping their previous record of 275 that was set in 2024. YSU also had the widest margin of victory in the history of the event, beating Milwaukee by 196 points. The previous record of 149 was set by Notre Dame 41 years ago in 1985.
Youngstown State won seven events on Sunday, adding to its two individual titles on Saturday. Jake Mcentyre claimed both sprinting events, taking the top spot on the podium in the 60m and the 200m. Brandon Hutchinson (heptathlon), Micah Mitchell (60m hurdles), Trenton Shutters (800m), Jaden Kirkwood (shot put) and Brayden Green (triple jump) were also individual champions.
Second-place individual finishers for the Penguins on Sunday were Ryan Tetrick (shot put), Shamir Rose (400m and 200m), Caedeon Trotter (60m), Owen Brady (3,000m). Mitchell, Shutters, Mcentyre and Rose combined to place second in the 4x400m relay.
Youngstown State head coach Brian Gorby was named the Horizon League Men's Track and Field Coach of the Year, and three Penguins earned individual awards. Rose was named the Running Freshman of the Year, Green was the Field Freshman of the Year, and Hutchinson earned the Outstanding Field Performer award.

Event-by-event breakdown
Heptathlon
After finishing as the runner-up last year, Brandon Hutchison won by 212 points with a total of 4,979. He scored 957 points in the 60m hurdles, and he had the top scores in the 60m, long jump, high jump, 60m hurdles and pole vault.
High Jump
Noah Crozier finished third in the high jump by clearing a height of 2.03m.
Triple Jump
YSU had three of the top five finishers in the triple jump to record 20 points. Freshman Brayden Green jumped 14.69m on his final attempt to move into first place at his first league meet. Aaron Beredinelli was third with a distance of 14.51m, and Emmanuel Asabere jumped 14.08m to finish fifth.
Shot Put
The Penguins claimed the top three spots on the podium in the event for 24 points. Jaden Kirkwood recorded a distance of 17.88m to win the event, and Ryan Tetrick and Dominic Brown had their best throws on their final attempts. Tetrick posted a throw of 16.64m, and Brown's mark was 15.92m
Mile
Youngstown State scored six points in the mile with finishers in the fifth and seventh positions. Connor Shingleton was fifth with a time of 4:11.69, and Ethan Cope placed seventh in 4:13.77.
60m Hurdles
Micah Mitchell was the top finisher in the hurdles, and the Penguins had four of the top six times. Mitchell's first-place time was 7.88 seconds, and he was joined on the podium by Brandon Hutchinson (third — 8.01), Clancy Chrystal (fourth — 8.06) and Garrett Laubacher (sixth — 8.49)
400m
Two Penguins finished in the top four in the 400m for 13 points. Shamir Rose was the runner-up with a time of 47.82 seconds, just 0.05 behind the winner, and Teziah Howard placed fourth in 48.33 seconds.
60m
Youngstown State had the top two finishers in the 60m dash. Jake Mcentyre was the champion with a time of 6.88 seconds, and Caedeon Trotter finished second with a time of 6.89 seconds.
800m
Trenton Shutters emerged from a tight top four to win the 800m. He finished with a time of 1:52.20, and three runners were within 0.6 seconds of him.
200m
The Penguins' best event on the track was the 200m with the top four finishers and 29 points. Jake Mcentyre claimed the top spot with a time of 21.86 seconds, and Shamir Rose was second in 21.95. Caedeon Trotter placed third with a time of 22.02, and Teziah Howard was fourth with a time of 22.19.
3,000m
Four Penguins finished in the top seven, and Owen Brady and Blaze Fichter finished within 0.29 seconds of each other for second and third place. Brady clocked a time of 8:18.08 to finish second, and Fichter's third-place time was 8:18.37. Patrick Burgos finished fifth with a time of 8:21.00, and Connor Shingleton was seventh in 8:22.08.
4x400m Relay
Youngstown State finished as the runners-up in the meet's final event with a time of 3:15.85. The team included Micah Mitchell, Trenton Shutters, Jake Mcentyre and Shamir Rose.
