Greensboro, N.C. — Youngstown State's bowling team won all five of its Baker matches on Friday on the opening day of the Vernell Stallings Women's Bowling Invitational, which is being hosted by North Carolina A&T at Triad Lanes.
The No. 8 Penguins, who won their final four matches at last week's Big Red Invitational, have now won nine consecutive head-to-head matches. YSU won by an average of 109.6 pins on Friday, and three of its wins were over teams ranked in the top 20.
Youngstown State had the third-highest pinfall in the field of 21 teams with five qualifying matches remaining on Saturday. No. 1 Jacksonville State and No. 6 Nebraska both averaged higher than 210 per game and hold the top two positions in the standings, and YSU has a 65-pin lead on No. 12 North Carolina A&TÂ for third.
The tournament shifts to traditional play on Saturday, and YSU's five-match slate will begin at 8:25 a.m. All five matches will be streamed live on the YSUsports YouTube channel.
