Lincoln, Neb. — ?Youngstown State's bowling team earned wins over three ranked teams and moved up two spots in the standings on Saturday with a solid traditional round at the Big Red Invitational.
The Penguins are currently sitting eighth with one more match of qualifying scheduled for Sunday morning.
Youngstown State averaged 200.72 collectively on Saturday, posting a team pinfall of 5,018 over five matches and 25 games. The No. 7 Penguins alternated wins and losses, beating No. 13 McKendree, No. 4 Wichita State and No. 14 Sam Houston. Their 1,136 total against the fourth-ranked Shockers was the highest traditional set of the season.
Junior Amy Chrzanowski is third individually with one game remaining on Sunday. Her five-game total is 1,104, and four bowlers are within seven pins of her. Amber Mason is 21st with a 1,001, and Kara Beissel's career-high 277 game helped her to a 973 set.
Youngstown State will bowl against Vanderbilt on Sunday at 9:55 a.m. to finish qualifying. Two best-of-seven Baker matches in the championship bracket will follow.
