Lincoln, Neb. — Youngstown State's bowling team won two matches to start the Big Red Invitational and finished the Baker round with a 2-3 record.
The Penguins topped Western Illinois 973-894 in their opening match and followed with a 1027-857 victory over Quincy. YSU then battled the event host and sixth-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers late into game five before falling 1,050-1,029.
Youngstown State was averaging 201.93 per game through three matches, but its scoring pace fell to 180 per game over its last two matches. YSU fell 1,031-894 to No. 5 Louisiana Tech and 1,103-906 to No. 1 Jacksonville State.
The tournament will resume with five traditional matches on Saturday, starting at 11:10 a.m. Eastern.
