Boston, Mass. – The Youngstown State men's and women's distance runners competing at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston on Friday and Saturday at the BU Track and Tennis Facility had a highly successful trip.
The men had a solid day on Friday led by Connor Shingleton the mile and Patrick Burgos in the 3,000m. On Saturday, Caleigh Richards and Jenna Razavi clocked career-best times in the 3,000m.
In the mile, Shingleton had a personal-best time of 4:06.93 to move him up into fourth all-time in program history. Shingleton's previous-best effort was 4:09.08 which was sixth-best all time. Also in the mile, Ethan Cope ran a 4:14.59, Brock Farris ran a 4:17.28 and Sage Vavro had a 4:19.77.
Burgos also moved into fourth place in school history running a time of 8:11.80 in the 3,000m. His time is just outside the top three and is more than two and a half seconds ahead of fifth.
Also in the 3,000m, Blaze Ficther had a time of 8:23.53 and Owen Brady ran a time of 8:29.25.
On Valentine's Day, Richards clocked a personal-best time of 9:33.62. Her previous top time in the race was 9:42.81. The top four in school history are now separated by just five seconds. Razavi ran a career-best time of 9:49.91, which moves her into fifth all-time and was a nine-second improvement from her previous best.
The Penguins are next in action on Feb. 28 when the Horizon League Championships kick off at the WATTS.
