The Youngstown State track and field team had multiple top two finishes at the two-day YSU Mid-Major Invitational presented by Southwoods Health which concluded on Saturday at the WATTS.
Winning events for the Penguins were Joseph Owusu-Ansah (200m), Micah Mitchell (60m hurdles), Lea Parham (60m hurdles) and Ava Reeves (60m dash).
Placing second for YSU was Caleigh Richards (mile), JaMeire Robinson (weight throw), Ainsley Hamsher (pole vault), Owusu-Ansah (60m dash), Tori Atkins (400m), Aaron Berardinelli (triple jump), Clancy Chrystal (60m hurdles), Ava Littler (60m hurdles), Melody Harloff (200m), women's DMR and the men's 4x400m relay.
Owusu-Ansah lit up the track in the 200m once again clocking a time of 21.44 seconds for the win in the opening heat. He took first by 0.43 seconds. In third in the race was Caedeon Trotter with a time of 22.00 seconds. In the 60m, Owusu-Ansah was second with a time of 6.81 seconds as YSU had three of the top seven runners.
Mitchell led a 1-2 finish in the 60m hurdles on Saturday. Mitchell ran a time of 8.10 seconds in the final while Clancy Chrystal took second at 8.21 seconds.
Parham also spearheaded a 1-2 finish in the 60m hurdles on Saturday. She was first to cross the line with a time of 8.63 seconds while Littler came in second at 8.87 seconds.
Reeves picked up another 60m dash win on Friday with a time of 7.61 seconds. She won a photo finish against Houghton's Victoria Brewster who had the same time. Harloff placed fourth at 7.64 seconds. The top five all finished within 0.08 seconds. Harloff added a second-place effort in the 200m with a time of 24.79.
Berardinelli had a leap of 14.06m in his final attempt of the triple jump to move into second place in the final standings.
Richards finished with a time of 5:01.15 in the mile and led right up until the final five meters. In the men's mile, Patrick Burgos finished third at 4:12.49 while Blaze Fichter was fourth at 4:13.12.
Atkins raced to a time of 57.42 seconds to place runner up in the 400m while Laylah Hayes come in fourth with a time of 59.30 seconds. Atkins later finished fifth in the 200m.
In the women's pole vault, Hamsher had a best mark of 3.97m. Overall, YSU took four of the top seven places. For the men, Lukas Lang was third at 5.01m.
On Friday evening, the women's DMR clocked a time of 12:19.95 finishing just behind Davis & Elkins. On Saturday in the final race of the two-day marathon, the group of Jake Mcentyre, Shamir Rose, Caedeon Trotter and Teziah Howard was second with a time of 3:16.69.
In the men's weight throw elite, Robinson had a throw of 17.04m. Brooklynn McIntyre was third in the women's weight throw with a toss of 14.70m.
In the men's shot put elite, Dominic Brown placed third with a toss of 16.73m while Jaden Kirkwood was fourth with a throw of 16.24m. Oliva Mason was fourth in her season debut in the women's shot put elite competition.
