Kent, Ohio - The Youngstown State men's and women's track and field team made a successful short trip to the Kent State Jud Logan Memorial Invitational on Friday.
Winning events for the men were Joseph Owusu-Ansah (200m), Teziah Howard (400m), Noah Crozier (high jump) and for the women Melana Schumaker (pole vault) and Jaylynn King (weight throw) claimed victories.
Howard led a one-two finish for the Penguins in the 400m. He won with a time of 49.10 seconds while Shamir Rose came in second at 49.76 seconds. Tori Atkins had a second-place effort in the 400m with a time of 57.56 seconds.
The Guins finished second, third and fourth in the men's 60m hurdles. Micah Mitchell was second clocking a 8.16 while Brandon Hutchinson was third at 8.17 seconds and Clancy Chrystal was fourth at 8.23 seconds.
Owusu-Ansah continued his early season dominance in the 200m clocking a winning time of 21.62 seconds taking the race by 0.27 seconds. Caedeon Trotter came in third with a time of 22.12 seconds.
Melody Harloff netted a third-place finish in the 60m with a time of 7.66 seconds. Owusu-Ansah came in second in the men's race at 6.81 seconds. Harloff later added a third-place time of 24.97 seconds in the 200m, just missing out on second place by .001 seconds.
King won the weight throw with personal-best toss of 18.06m.
YSU swept the top four spots in the women's pole vault with Schumaker taking first (3.85m), Kaitlyn Eger placed second (3.75m), Gabbi Selman was third (3.60m) and Marissa Ratliff was fourth (3.60m). For the men, Lukas Lang was second with a mark of 5.00m.
Crozier won the high jump with a best mark of 2.05m while Connor Durig was fourth at 1.93m. Kalli Knoble placed third in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.63m. Isaiah Barker was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 7.01m. Emmanuel Asabere was fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 14.15m.
Ryan Tetrick was fourth in the weight throw with toss of 17.87m. In the women's shot put, Maggie Goodlin was fourth at 12.34m. For the men, Jaden Kirkwood finished fourth in the men's shot put with a throw of 16.49m.
The Penguins return to action next Friday when they host the two-day YSU Mid-Major Invitational presented by Southwoods Health at the WATTS.
