The Youngstown State women's golf team will be seeking its third straight tournament victory on Sunday and Monday when it plays host to the 11th annual Roseann Schwartz Invitational at Mill Creek Golf Course in Boardman, Ohio.
The Penguins are coming off an impressive team triumph at the Total Athlete Collegiate on Sept. 8-9. YSU finished the event with a three-round team total of 886, which ranks as the third-lowest 54-hole performance in program history. After posting team scores of 302 and 289 in the first two rounds, Youngstown State recorded a 295 in the third and final round to pull away and win the tournament by 12 strokes over runner-up Tennessee Tech. The Guins were also victorious in their annual YSU Kickoff on Sept. 1 at Mill Creek Golf Course.
Sofia Perez Escarcena finished atop the individual leaderboard at the Total Athlete Collegiate with a three-round score of 216 (76-68-72) to collect her first career individual win. The sophomore's career-low, four-under-par 68 in the second round featured nine pars, five birdies and an eagle on the par-five No. 15. Perez Escarcena's three-round 216 ranks as the sixth-lowest 54-hole score in school history.
The tournament field at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational will feature six other schools including Detroit Mercy, Maryland Eastern Shore, Mercyhurst, Niagara, Purdue Fort Wayne and Saint Francis. Kent State will also have three players competing as individuals at the event.
The teams are scheduled to play 18 holes on Sunday and Monday in the two-day, 36-hole event. Tee times for Sunday's opening round are scheduled from 9-11:40 a.m. while Monday's final round will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The course will play approximately 5,992 yards and par is 72. Live scoring will be available via Golfstat through links posted on YSUsports.com.
Head Coach Nate Miklos has announced that YSU's five-player team lineup will feature Neeranuch Prajunpanich, Perez Escarcena, Maddi Shoults, Valentina Peña Anaya and Bella Saur. In addition, Maureen Burns, Adena Rugola and Matilyn Zines will be competing as individuals for the Penguins.

The event is named in honor of Roseann Schwartz, who was YSU's women's golf coach from the program's inception in 1996 until 2013. Schwartz led the Penguins to 33 tournament victories and two Horizon League titles during her tenure. She was inducted into the YSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2021.
