Clemson, S.C. -- Junior Neeranuch Prajunpanich shared medalist honors to lead the Youngstown State women's golf team to a fourth-place finish on Monday in the season-opening Tiger Classic hosted by Clemson at The Walker Course.
The Penguins concluded their first tournament of the 2025-26 season with a three-round team total of 578 to finish fourth in a competitive field of 11 teams. Youngstown State recorded a 289 in the opening round before concluding the 36-hole event with another 289 in the second and final session. YSU's two-round team score of 578 ranks as the second-lowest 36-hole performance in program history.
Prajunpanich, the reigning Horizon League Women's Golfer of the Year, finished in a three-player tie atop the individual leaderboard at seven under par with a two-round score of 137 (67-70). The junior's two-round 137 ranks as the second-lowest individual 36-hole performance in school history. It is the lowest 36-hole score by a Penguin since Katlyn Shutt recorded a school-record 132 (68-64) at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational on Sept. 3-4, 2018.
After a historic sophomore season in 2024-25, Prajunpanich opened her junior campaign with a career-low and bogey-free, five-under-par round of 67 that featured 13 pars and five birdies. The Samut Prakan, Thailand, native notched three birdies while firing a three-under-par 33 on the front nine during her impressive opening round. The junior's first-round 67 is tied for the second-lowest individual 18-hole score in program history.
Prajunpanich finished the event with a second-round 70 that included 11 pars, three birdies and an eagle on the par-five, 480-yard No. 1. She carded three birdies during a two-under-par 34 on the back nine in the tournament's final session.
Maddi Shoults finished tied for 12th with a two-round score of 144 (73-71). The senior's one-over-par 73 in the first round featured 13 pars and a pair of birdies while her one-under-par 71 in the second round included 13 pars and three birdies. Shoults carded seven pars and two birdies while recording a two-under-par 34 on the back nine during the opening round of action.
Valentina Peña Anaya finished tied for 18th with a two-round total of 147 (73-74). The sophomore and reigning Horizon League Freshman of the Year turned in 11 pars and three birdies while firing a two-under-par 34 on the back nine during the first round. Peña Anaya's second-round 74 featured 12 pars and two birdies.
Sofia Perez Escarcena finished tied for 29th with a two-round 150 (76-74). The sophomore's first-round 76 included nine pars and three birdies while her second-round 74 featured 13 pars and a pair of birdies. Perez Escarcena posted an even-par 36 on the back nine during the final round of play.
Bella Saur finished tied for 36th with a two-round score of 153 (77-76). The sophomore carded three birdies in each round of competition. Playing as an individual, Matilyn Zines finished with a two-round 166 (90-76) in her first collegiate tournament. The redshirt freshman's second-round 76 included 11 pars and two birdies.
Clemson claimed its home tournament title at eight under par with a three-round team total of 568 after single-round scores of 287 and 281. The Tigers finished six shots in front of runner-up UNC Asheville (574) while Charlotte placed third (577). Youngstown State finished 14 strokes ahead of fifth-place Campbell.
Prajunpanich shared medalist honors with Charlotte's Pimchompoo Chaisilprungruang (67-70) and Clemson's Juliette Demeaux (66-71).
The Penguins will continue their fall schedule on Sept. 1 by hosting the YSU Kickoff at Mill Creek Golf Course in Boardman, Ohio.
