Philadelphia, Pa. – The Youngstown State men's and women's track and field teams had a memorable performance the past three days at the Penn Relays setting a pair of school records at Franklin Field.
The Penguins started off the meet with a school-record in the 5,000m run by Hunter Christopher. Christopher clocked a time of 13:40.08 which lowered his school best by more than six seconds. He finished eighth overall in the race against some of the best competition in the nation.
In the prelims of the 4x100m, the Penguins clocked a time of 40.31 seconds breaking the previous mark of 40.59 seconds which came at the Penn Relays in April 2018. That time advanced YSU to the finals where it finished sixth with a time of 40.41 seconds.
Luke Laubacher ran a career-best time of 13.59 seconds in the 110m hurdles prelims to qualify third for the finals.
Tye Hunt was third in the long jump with a leap of 7.50m.
Also running in the 5K was Tobias Jones who clocked a time of 14:51.91. In the 1,500m, Ryan Meadows ran a 3:51.52. In the 100m, Stephens-Stewart clocked a time of 10.75 seconds while Jake Mcentyre ran a time of 10.87 seconds. In the 110m hurdles, Micah Mitchell ran a time of 14.26 seconds.
In the high jump, Zachary Webb and Mason Stephens both cleared 2.00m
Michael Ballone ran a career-best time of 52.36 seconds in the 400m hurdles.
Nia Williams-Matthews competed in the long jump with a best leap of 5.62m.
