Four Penguins Earn #HLTennis Honors

The Youngstown State women's tennis team had four All-Horizon League selections, the conference announced on Thursday.

Seniors Julia Marko and Lili Minich were named to the first team while sophomores Lorena Cedeno and Yeseniia Ovcharova garnered second-team honors.

Marko has 81 career singles victories in her outstanding YSU career. This season she has won a total of 24 singles contests, including 13 at the No. 1 spot in the lineup. For good measure she added 15 doubles wins. She was a first-team all-league selection in 2024 and a second-team pick in 2022.

Minich has had the best season of her four-year career winning 18 singles matches. In dual play she has 10 victories, all at No. 2 singles.

Cedeno owns 19 singles wins, the second most on the squad, with 11 coming in the spring. She has shown versatility playing at No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 in the lineup. In doubles, she has added 14 wins. Ovcharova has won 16 matches this year with 11 coming in the spring. At No. 3 for the Guins, she has won eight contests.

The Penguins are back in action on Saturday when they play the winner of the Oakland/Milwaukee match in the semifinals. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
