The Youngstown State women's tennis team opened Horizon League play with a 4-3 victory over Cleveland State on Saturday at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
The Penguins have won three straight matches to improve to 8-9 overall and are 1-0 in league play. The Vikings fall to 5-13 and 0-1.
YSU came out strong winning the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 in the lineup.
At No. 1, Yoana Dudova and Hanna Telzynska picked up a 6-2 win while Line Greyling and Yeseniia Ovcharova were victorious by a 6-3 score. The contest at No. 3 doubles was tied at four when the point was clinched.
In singles, the Guins picked up straight set wins at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 singles.
At No. 2, Lorena Cedeno picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win. At No. 6, Greyling picked up her first Horizon League singles win since April 8, 2023, with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph.
Ovcharova won the clinching match at No. 3 singles by a 6-2, 7-6 (4) score.
The Vikings won in three sets at No. 1 and No. 4 and in straight sets at No. 5.
YSU returns to action on Friday when it travels to Milwaukee for a conference match against the Panthers.
