Milwaukee, Wis. – The Youngstown State women's tennis team suffered a 5-2 setback to Milwaukee on Friday at the River Glen Elite.
The Penguins fall to 8-10 on the season and are 1-1 in the Horizon League. Milwaukee improves to 6-10 and 1-1.
Picking up singles wins for YSU was Yeseniia Ovcharova and Line Greyling. Both of their victories came in straight sets. YSU won first sets at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, but the Panthers rallied for three-set victories.
Milwaukee won the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2.
Down 2-0, Greyling cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5. After Milwaukee jumped out in front 3-1, Ovcharova won her match 6-3, 6-4.
At No. 2, Lorena Cedeno won her first set, 6-3, before dropping the next two sets 6-2, 6-2. At No. 4, Sarah Partida Garcia won her first set, 6-4, before losing the final two sets, 7-5, 6-2.
The Panthers won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 singles and 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6 singles.
YSU returns to action next Saturday against IU Indy at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
