Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla. – The Youngstown State women's golf team is one shot off the lead while Neeranuch Prajunpanich surged to the top of the individual leaderboard on day two of the Horizon League Championships this Easter Sunday at the Mission Inn Resort's El Campeon Golf Course.
After two completed rounds, the Penguins own a team total of 625 which puts them one shot behind Purdue Fort Wayne's 624.
The Guins and Dons were tied after day one and it should set up for an exciting finish tomorrow afternoon. Oakland moved into contention and is now in third place just three shots back. The Golden Grizzlies had 26-stroke improvement from round one to two.
The Penguins started their day on the back nine and took advantage with some low scores on the front side. All five YSU golfers are in the top 20.
Prajunpanich is the individual leader with a two-round total of 149 thanks to an impressive two-under par 71 on Sunday. She put on a clinic with three birdies, 14 pars and just one bogey. The 2024 HL runner-up was one-over par after her first six holes before birdies at No. 17, No. 2 and No. 7 boosted her up the leaderboard. She holds a three-shot advantage over PFW's Olivia Jang.
Maddi Shoults also made a move up the leaderboard with a four-over par 77 giving her a 160 after two rounds. She started her round with five pars in her first six holes and carded a birdie four at the par-5 17th. On the front side she had two early bogey before closing with six consecutive pars and is now tied for 11th place.
Lizzie Saur and Sofia Perez Escarcena are tied for 13th with a 161. Saur had an 80 on Sunday highlighted by an eagle 3 on the par-5 seventh hole. She also had a birdie on the par-5 14th. Perez Escarcena, who was tied for the lead following the first round, carded an 85 for her second round and had birdies on No. 1 and No. 2.
Valentina Peña Anaya is in 18th place with a 162. She had a birdie on No. 6 on Sunday.
Tee times for Monday's final round will be announced later this evening.
