Charlottesville, Va. – Tye Hunt set the school record in the long jump while Luke Laubacher blazed to the title in the 110m hurdles to highlight a two-day performance at the Virginia Challenge at Lanning Field.
On Saturday, Laubacher made his 110m hurdle outdoor debut in impressive fashion posting a time of 13:72 seconds to earn the event win.
On Friday, Hunt blew away his previous school record with a first attempt of 7.92m in the long jump to place third. His previous outdoor best was 7.68m which came on April 15, 2022, more than three years ago.
Kenzy Beckett was third in the steeplechase with a personal-best time of 11:04.34. McKinley Fielding posted a third-place finish in the 5,000 running a career-best time of 16:39.66. That time ranks third in program history in the event.
YSU had two of the top seven finishers in the women's 100m hurdles with Madison Murry running a time of 13.63 seconds in her outdoor debut while Emily Bee clocked a time of 13.72 seconds. Murry's time was a career-best, but the wind was at 3.4 mph, just above the legal limit.
In the women's pole vault, Gabbi Selman placed third clearing the bar at 3.75m while Kaitlyn Eger was fifth at 3.75m as well. In the women's pole vault invitational, Ainsley Hamsher cleared 4.00m to place sixth.
In the women's long jump, Nia Williams-Matthews had a career-best leap of 5.80m which ranks her seventh in program history. Micah Carey had a best attempt of 5.77m in the event. In the triple jump, Williams-Matthews had a leap of 12.65m.
In the men's 400m hurdles, Michael Ballone was ninth with a time of 54.14 seconds. In the men's pole vault, Ian Quarles cleared 4.70m. Daimere Stephens-Stewart added a career-best in the long jump with a leap of 7.14m.
In the men's high jump, Mason Stephens, Nathan Leskovac and Zachary Webb all cleared 2.01m.

Winston-Salem, N.C. – Late Friday evening, Hunter Christopher lowered his school record time in the 5,000m by a half second running a 13:46.58 in a fast race.
In the standing he finished eighth while teammate Ryan Meadows posted a time of 14:04.91.
