The Youngstown State women's tennis team opens Horizon League play with a contest at Cleveland State on Saturday. First serve at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion is set for 2 p.m.
The Penguins (7-6) were predicted to finish behind the Vikings (6-9) for the regular-season title in the conference's preseason poll. CSU received five first-place votes to YSU's two in the league voting.
YSU has played just one contest since Feb. 23, a 4-0 defeat at CSUN. The Vikings are on a two-match winning streak.
Last year, YSU, Cleveland State and Chicago State all shared the league regular-season title. The Vikings won last year's match 5-2 in Cleveland.
The last dual win at CSU for the Penguins was on March 31, 2018.
Julia Marko is 9-3 at No. 1 singles while Lili Minich, Yeseniia Ovcharova, Lorena Cedeno and Ghada Dirninger have all won six singles contests this spring. In doubles, Dirninger and Marko have a team-best seven wins.
Making their Horizon League debuts on Saturday at Dirninger and Yoana Dudova.
Marko enters the match tied with Margarita Sadovnikova for second in school history with 77 career singles victories.
YSU returns home to face Milwaukee and Chicago State next weekend.
