The Youngstown State women's golf team will resume the spring portion of its 2024-25 season on Monday when it begins play in the two-day Howard University Invitational at Hawkstone Country Club in Gainesville, Fla.
The Penguins are coming off a 10th-place team finish in their spring season opener at the Columbia Classic on Feb. 8-9. Neeranuch Prajunpanich paced the Penguins individually, finishing tied for 24th in the 71-player field with a three-round score of 227 (74-77-76). The sophomore's two-over-par 74 in the opening round featured 12 pars and a pair of birdies as she fired a one-under-par 35 on the back nine. For her performance, Prajunpanich was named the Horizon League Women's Golfer of the Week for the first time her career on Feb. 13.
The tournament field at the Howard University Invitational will feature nine other schools including Alabama State, Bethune-Cookman, Cleveland State, Holy Cross, Howard, Maryland Eastern-Shore, North Carolina Central, Queens University of Charlotte and Saint Francis.
The teams will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday in the two-day, 54-hole event. Play is scheduled to begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. each day. The course will play approximately 6,056 yards and par is 72. Live scoring will be available via Scoreboard Live through links posted on YSUsports.com and the program's social media channels.
Head Coach Nate Miklos has announced that YSU's five-player lineup will feature Prajunpanich, Valentina Peña Anaya, Sofia Perez Escarcena, Maddi Shoults and Lizzie Saur. In addition, Bella Saur will be competing as an individual for the Penguins.
Prajunpanich, Peña Anaya, Perez Escarcena and Lizzie Saur have competed in each of YSU's first six events this season. Shoults has participated in five tournaments while Bella Saur has competed in three events.
