Boston, Mass. – Six Youngstown State men's and women's track and field distance runners who competed at the Boston Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Saturday at the BU Track and Tennis Center all set personal bests on a productive day at the facility.
Early in the day, Ethan Cope clocked a time of 8:25.22 while Brock Farris posted a time of 8:26.33. Both of those runs were new personal bests for the duo.
In the women's 5,000m, McKinley Fielding, Caleigh Richards and Jenna Razavi all lowered their previous best times in the race but substantial margins.
Fielding led the way with a time of 16:40.36 which moved her into second place all time at YSU. Her previous top time was 16:55.23 which came last year at the same meet.
Richards posted a time of 16:48.67 which was an 11-second improvement off her best time which came back in February.
Razavi ran a time of 17:18.29 which is now seventh best in program history. She also trimmed 11 seconds off her previous top time which was last December.
To conclude the night, Patrick Burgos ran a personal-best time of 14:16.37, which moves him into fourth in program history in the 5,000m.
The Penguins are off until Jan. 16 when they return to host the YSU Collegiate Invitational presented by Southwoods Health at the WATTS.
