The Youngstown State men's and women's track and field teams opened the indoor season by hosting the 14th annual YSU Icebreaker presented by Southwoods Health on Friday.
Winning events for YSU during the meet were Jaylynn King (women's weight throw), Ryan Tetrick (men's weight throw), Joseph Owusu-Ansah (200m) and Thomas Caputo (3,000m) while the Guins also picked up six second-place finishes.
King won the weight throw in her YSU debut with a toss of 18.39m. Tetrick took home top honors in the men's event with a best effort of 17.71m.
Owusu-Ansah used an outstanding performance in the second heat of the 200m dash to win clocking a personal-best time of 21.55 seconds. Caputo capped off the individual races for the day with a winning time of 8:36.70. He took the top spot by just under 10 seconds.
Lea Parham was second in the women's 60m hurdles with a career-best time of 8.52 seconds. Parham's time ranks her fifth-best in YSU history. Micah Mitchell finished second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.91m to lead a two, three, four finish in the event for YSU. Melody Harloff was second in the 400m with a personal-best time of 56.21 seconds.
YSU finished the evening with a second-place finish in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:16.98.
In the field events, newcomer Brayden Green was second in the long jump with a leap of 6.96m while earning a third-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 14.41m.
Kaitlyn Eger was second in the seeded pole vault clearing a height of 3.90m. Connor Durig came in second in the high jump with a best mark of 2.00m.

Melana Schumaker and Ainsley Hamsher fourth in the pole vault (3.80m)
Tetrick fifth in the shot put (16.55m)
Emmanuel Asabere fifth in the triple jump (14.16m)
In the unseeded women's pole vault, Marissa Ratliff took first place with a mark of 3.70m and in the unseeded women's high jump, Mylee Harmon was third at 1.54m.
The Penguins will have seven runners compete the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener hosted by Boston University tomorrow.
