Harahan, La. — Youngstown State's bowling team topped 970 in four matches and won twice during traditional play on Saturday at the Colonial Lanes Classic.
The Penguins averaged 195.24 per game on Saturday and finished the two rounds of qualifying at Colonial Lanes in 10th place. YSU will bowl in three best-of-seven Baker matches in bracket play on Sunday beginning at 9:30 a.m. Eastern.
Youngstown State posted a 974 pinfall in each of its first two matches, a 974-801 win over Florida A&M and a 1,071-974 loss to No. 5 Wichita State. The Penguins then had their best set of the day in a 1,017-951 victory over No. 18 UAB, and they fell 1,047-905 to No. 2 Nebraska and 1,054-1,011 to No. 8 Sam Houston to finish the round.
Amy Chrzanowski was YSU's top individual, placing 15th with a 1,043 set. Gianna Varano finished in a tie for 24th with a 1,007 set, and Kara Beissel was five pins behind her in 26th. Amber Mason finished 46th, and Kaitlyn Greenaway and Liv Baskin shared the fifth spot in the lineup.
All of the tournament's matches on Sunday will be broadcast live on Tulane's YouTube channel, TUGreenWave. Youngstown State's opening match will be against Duquesne.
