Inés González Ortega Signs to Join YSU Women’s Golf Program for Fall 2026

Spanish international golf standout Inés González Ortega has signed to join the Youngstown State women's golf program in the fall of 2026, YSU head coach Nate Miklos announced on Friday.

"We are very excited for Inés to join our Penguin family," said Miklos. "Inés has extensive experience competing internationally and has shown an ability to play at a very high level. She has the work ethic and mindset that we look for and will help her become an impact player for our program. I could not be more thrilled to have both Inés and Eliza Mercer joining our program next fall."

González Ortega, who is ranked No. 2145 in the World Amateur Golf rankings, qualified first in the stroke play portion of Copa Federación Cántabra WAGR in 2025 with a 36-hole total of seven under par to advance to match play. The native of Santander, Cantabria, Spain, proceeded to win all three matches during the match play portion of the event to claim the championship.

González Ortega finished fourth at the Grand Prix De Pau in 2025 with a 72-hole total of 274 (64-70-70-70). She finished tied for 10th at the Spanish U18 Championship in 2025 with a 72-hole total of 302 (73-76-76-77). González Ortega also finished tied for 46th at the 2025 Spanish International Amateur Women's Stroke Play Championship.

González Ortega finished tied for ninth at the Spanish U18 Championship in 2024 while finishing tied for first at the Regional U18 Championship. She also finished tied for first at the Puntuable Zonal Cadete in 2024.
