The Youngstown State women's golf team will close the fall portion of its 2025-26 season on Saturday and Sunday when it competes in the two-day Lady Blue Hen Invitational hosted by Delaware at Rehoboth Beach Country Club in Rehoboth Beach, Del.
The Penguins are coming off an impressive runner-up finish at Notre Dame's Fighting Irish Classic on Sept. 28. YSU has finished in the top four on the team leaderboard in each of its first five tournaments this fall. The Guins opened the fall campaign with a fourth-place finish at Clemson's Tiger Classic on Aug. 25 before rattling off three straight tournament victories at the YSU Kickoff (Sept. 1), the Total Athlete Collegiate (Sept. 8-9) and the Roseann Schwartz Invitational (Sept. 21-22).
Maddi Shoults placed third individually at the Fighting Irish Classic with a two-round score of 144 (76-68) to earn her third top three finish of the season. The senior matched her career low round with a four-under-par 68 in the second session that featured 10 pars and six birdies. Sophomore Sofia Perez Escarcena finished tied for fourth at Notre Dame's event with a two-round total of 150 (78-72) to claim her fourth straight top five performance.
The tournament field at the Lady Blue Hen Invitational will feature 11 other schools including Dartmouth, Delaware, Delaware State, Georgetown, Harvard, Penn, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart, Seton Hall, St. John's and Yale.
The field is scheduled to play 36 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday in the two-day, 54-hole event. Saturday's opening round is scheduled to begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. while Sunday's third and final round is slated to commence at 9 a.m. The course will play 6,169 yards and par is 72. Live scoring will be available via Golf Genius through links posted on YSUsports.com.
Head Coach Nate Miklos has announced that YSU's five-player team lineup will feature Neeranuch Prajunpanich, Shoults, Perez Escarcena, Valentina Peña Anaya and Maureen Burns.
Peña Anaya, Perez Escarcena, Prajunpanich and Shoults have been in the team lineup in each of the Penguins' first five events this fall. Burns will make her debut in YSU's lineup this weekend after participating in three tournaments as an individual.
