Peña Anaya Paces Penguins at Nittany Lion Invitational

Freshman Valentina Peña Anaya finished tied for 13th individually to pace the Youngstown State women's golf team at the Nittany Lion Invitational hosted by Penn State, which concluded on Sunday from the PSU Blue Course in University Park, Pa.

As a team, the Penguins placed 10th with a three-round team total of 912. YSU recorded team scores of 299 and 297 in the first rounds, respectively, on Saturday before closing the event with a 316 in Sunday's final session.

Playing in her second collegiate tournament, Peña Anaya tied for 13th with a three-round score of 222 (71-76-75). The true freshman's career-low, one-under-par 71 in the opening round on Saturday featured 11 pars and four birdies as she fired a one-under-par 35 on the back nine.

Neeranuch Prajunpanich finished tied for 26th with a three-round total of 227 (74-74-79). The sophomore's two-over-par 74 in the first round included 10 pars and a pair of birdies as she carded a one-under-par 35 on the front nine. Prajunpanich's second-round 74 featured nine pars and four birdies as she shot a two-under-par 34 on the front nine.

Sofia Perez Escarcena finished tied for 38th with a three-round 230 (76-74-80). The freshman's career-low, two-over-par 74 in the second session included 12 pars and a pair of birdies.

Lizzie Saur concluded the event with a three-round score of 235 (78-73-84). The senior's one-over-par 73 in the second round featured seven pars and five birdies as she turned in a one-under-par 35 on the back nine.

Maddi Shoults finished the tournament with a three-round total of 236 (78-76-82). The junior carded three birdies during the opening round of play on Saturday.

Princeton claimed the tournament title at 10 over par with a three-round team total of 874. Harvard finished as the runner-up with an 889, Jacksonville State placed third with an 892 while the host Penn State was fourth with an 895.

Princeton's Catherine Rao earned medalist honors at five under par with a three-round score of 211 (67-70-74) while her teammate Abra Richmond was the runner-up with a 214 (72-71-71).

Youngstown State will continue its fall schedule on Sept. 22-23 when it plays host to the Roseann Schwartz Invitational at Mill Creek Golf Course in Boardman, Ohio.
