The Youngstown State women's golf team will continue the spring portion of its 2025-26 season on Monday when it begins play in the two-day EKU Colonel Classic at The University Club at Arlington in Richmond, Ky.
The Penguins are coming off a third-place team finish in the Howard Lady Bison Intercollegiate on March 2-3. Youngstown State has now finished in the top five on the team leaderboard in each of the seven tournaments it has played during the 2025-26 season.
Junior Neeranuch Prajunpanich finished tied for second place on the individual leaderboard with a three-round score of 219 (73-73-73) to earn her sixth top five performance in seven stroke-play events this season. Prajunpanich was named the Under Armour Horizon League Women's Golfer of the Week for the fourth time in her career on March 5.
The tournament field at the EKU Colonel Classic will feature nine other schools including Akron, Bellarmine, Butler, Eastern Kentucky (host), IU Indianapolis, Marshall, Northern Kentucky, Southern Illinois, Southern Indiana.
Head Coach Nate Miklos has announced that YSU's five-player lineup will feature Prajunpanich, Maddi Shoults, Sofia Perez Escarcena, Valentina Peña Anaya and Matilyn Zines. In addition, Maureen Burns and Bella Saur will be competing as individuals for the Penguins.
The teams are slated to play 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday in the two-day, 54-hole event. Monday's first round is scheduled to begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. while Tuesday's final round is slated for a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The course will play approximately 6,069 yards and par is 72. Peña Anaya, Perez Escarcena, Prajunpanich and Shoults have competed in all eight events the Penguins have played this season while Saur has participated in seven tournaments. Zines will make her first appearance in YSU's team lineup this season after competing in four events as an individual. Burns will make her spring season debut on Monday after participating in four tournaments during the fall campaign.
