Bloomfield Township, Mich. – The Youngstown State women's tennis team picked up a 6-1 win at Oakland on Sunday afternoon giving the Penguins a share of the Horizon League regular-season championship.

It marks the second straight year YSU has won the regular-season title and is the fifth time since 2015 the Guins won outright or shared the league regular-season crown. After dropping its conference opener, the Penguins won their final five matches to conclude the regular season.

YSU finished league play at 5-1 tying with Cleveland State and Chicago State atop the conference standings. At the HL Championships starting on Friday, Cleveland State will be the top seed, YSU the No. 2 seed and Chicago State the No. 3 seed.

The Penguins lost the doubles point to the Golden Grizzlies and needed a strong performance in singles to win a piece of the title. YSU won four matches in straight sets and two more in three sets.

YSU will next be in action on Saturday in the semifinals of the Horizon League Championships. First serve is set for 3 p.m. in West Lafayette, Ind.
