Box Score The Youngstown State University women's tennis team handed IU Indy its first Horizon League loss this season in a 6-1 victory Saturday at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
The Penguins secured the doubles point and won five of six singles matches to improve to 2-1 in conference play and 9-10 overall. The Jaguars fall to 2-1 in league play and 6-4 overall.
YSU claimed wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to secure the opening point, with No. 1 doubles leading when the point was clinched. At No. 2, Line Greyling and Yeseniaa Ovcharova earned a 6-4 win, while Lorena Cedeno and Sarah Partida Garcia took a 6-1 decision at No. 3.
In singles play, all five Penguin victories came in straight sets.
Partida Garcia opened singles action at No. 4 with a 6-0, 6-4 win, followed shortly by Cedeno at No.2, who posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory to keep the Jaguars off the board.
Greyling continued her strong play with her fifth consecutive singles win at No. 5, earning a 6-4, 6-1 decision.
The Jaguars prevented the sweep with a win at No. 6 singles, earning their lone point of the match by a 6-4, 6-3 score.
YSU extended its lead 3-1 when Ovcharova secured a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 3. At No. 1, Hannah Telzynska closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-3 victory.
The Penguins return to action tomorrow for their final home match of the season, with first serve set for 2 p.m. against Northern Kentucky. The Horizon League matchup will also serve as Senior Day for Yoana Dudova and Greyling.
