Penguins Set to Host IU Indy, NKU In Final Home Matches

The Youngstown State women's tennis team returns home this weekend for their final home Horizon League matches of the year.

The Penguins will host IU Indy on Saturday at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center, with first serve scheduled for 2 p.m., before celebrating Senior Day on Sunday against Northern Kentucky, also set for a 2 p.m. start. 

The Guins enter the weekend 1-1 in league play and 8-10 overall. In conference matches, YSU owns a 4-3 win over Cleveland State and suffered a 5-2 defeat at Milwaukee last Friday.

IU Indy enters the weekend on a two-match Horizon League winning streak, with victories over Northern Kentucky and Oakland. The Jaguars defeated the Golden Grizzlies, 4-3, on April 3 to improve to 2-0 in conference play and 6-3 overall.

YSU has won in its last two meetings with IU Indy by 7-0 scores and holds a 13-2 advantage in the all-time series. 

On Sunday, the Penguins will honor seniors Line Greyling and Yoana Dudova. Greyling will be concluding a four-year career for the Red and White while Dudova has spent two seasons with the program after transferring from Hillsborough College.

Dudova has played in 46 career singles matches and 36 doubles contests. Greyling has played in 64 singles contests and 90 doubles tilts while at YSU.

Northern Kentucky enters the weekend still seeking its first conference win after falling to Oakland and IU Indy. The Norse takes on Cleveland State on Saturday before heading to YSU on Sunday.

Youngstown State has won four straight matches against NKU dating back to the 2020-21 season, including a 6-1 victory last season. 

In the Horizon League standings, IU Indy is first at 2-0 while Milwaukee and Oakland are tied at 2-1. YSU sits at 1-1 with Cleveland State (0-2) and NKU (0-2) looking for their first wins. All six teams make the Horizon League Championships with the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds receiving byes to the semifinals.
