2022-23 Women's Tennis Year In Review

The 2022-23 Youngstown State women's tennis team won the Horizon League regular-season championship, the HL postseason title and advanced to the NCAA Championships for the seventh time in school history. 

  • The Penguins advanced to the NCAA Regionals for the second consecutive year. YSU played fifth-seeded Michigan in the opening round of the Ann Arbor Regional.
  • The Guins won their second straight Horizon League postseason title beating Milwaukee 4-2 in the semifinals and outlasting Cleveland State 4-3 in the finals.
  • In the HL Championship match, the Penguins won 4-3. It was second straight year they won a 4-3 decision in the title match.
  • YSU has advanced to the Horizon League finals in each of its last nine postseason tournament appearances.
  • The Guins have won 17 of their last 18 Horizon League tournament matches and 18 of their last 20 since 2013. Prior to winning 18 times in its last nine tournament appearances, YSU had won nine contests, seven of which were consolation matches, from 2004-12.
  • YSU finished the season with an 11-9 record, including a 6-0 Horizon League mark.
  • YSU was 9-1 after March 17 and for the season went 7-2 at home.
  • Elisa Rigazio and Eliska Masarikova were first-team All-Horizon League selections. Lili Minich and Cecilia Rosas were second-team picks.
  • In her three-year YSU career, Rosas was a two-time second-team All-Horizon League pick while earning first-team honors in 2022. She finished out her Penguins career with 53 singles victories and 51 doubles wins.
  • Following her final season at YSU, Jessica Stanmore won 37 singles contests and 39 doubles matches.
  • In singles matches for the year, the Guins were 93-89 while going 62-53 in dual match play.
  • In Horizon League singles matches, YSU went an astonishing 31-5. Marko, Masarikova and Rosas went 6-0 in league play while Rigazio was 5-1.
  • In doubles play the Guins were 49-46 for the campaign.
  • YSU won at least nine matches at every spot in the lineup except No. 6.
  • Five players won at least 11 singles matches – Rosas (21), Marko (16), Rigazio (12), Masarikova (12) and Minich (11).
  • In doubles play, Masarikova and Rigazio were 9-6 while Minich and Rosas finished 7-5. Minich led the team with 17 doubles wins while Masarikova had 16 and Rosas added 15.
  • YSU played matches in Ohio, Michigan, California, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Kentucky during the year.
