Women's Tennis 2021-22 Season In Review

The Youngstown State women's tennis team advanced to the NCAA Championships for the sixth time in school history. 
  • The Penguins advanced to the NCAA Regionals for the first time since 2018. YSU played fourth-seeded Virginia in the opening round of the Charlottesville Regional.
  • The Guins won their first Horizon League postseason title since 2018 beating UIC 4-2 in the semifinals and Milwaukee 4-3 in the finals.
  • In the HL Championship match, the Penguins won 4-3. It was their first-ever 4-3 win in a title match out of six tries.
  • YSU has advanced to the Horizon League finals in each of its last eight postseason tournament appearances.
  • The Guins have won 15 of their last 16 Horizon League tournament matches and 16 of their last 18 since 2013. Prior to winning 16 times in its last eight tournament appearances, YSU had won nine contests, seven of which were consolation matches, from 2004-12.
  • YSU finished the season with 13 dual wins, including a 5-1 Horizon League mark.
  • YSU was 8-2 after March 18 and for the season went 6-2 at home.
  • Cecilia Rosas was named first-team All-Horizon League while Elisa Rigazio and Eliska Masarikova were second-team picks.
  • In Horizon League singles matches, YSU went a combined 26-10. Julia Marko and Rigazio led the team with five wins each.
  • In doubles play the Guins were 10-5 in league contests.
  • YSU won at least nine matches at every spot in the lineup.
  • Six players won at least 12 singles matches – Marko (22), Rigazio (22), Rosas (17), Lili Minich (14), Eliska Masarikova (12) and Jessica Stanmore (12).
  • Rigazio and Marko were one victory shy of the record for most wins in season.
  • In doubles play, Marko and Rosas were 19-11, Masarikov and Rigazio were 17-11 and Stanmore and Minich were 12-14.
  • Rosas, Rigazio and Masarikova received Horizon League Singles Player of the Week accolades while Rigazio/Rosas and Stanmore/Minich earned Doubles Player of the Week honors.
  • YSU played matches in Ohio, Michigan, Nevada, Virginia, New York, West Virginia and Indiana during the year.
