The Youngstown State women's tennis team closed out non-league play with a 6-1 win over Mercyhurst on Saturday at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.

The Penguins improve to 7-9 overall as they wrapped up non Horizon League matches. YSU opens Horizon League play next Saturday when it plays host to Cleveland State.

Youngstown State won the doubles point and picked up five singles wins in its first contest against the Lakers since April 1991.

YSU won the doubles point in just over 30 minutes. At No. 6, Loreno Cedeno and Sarah Partida Garcia cruised to a 6-0 win. At No. 1, Yoana Dudova and Hanna Telzynska claimed a 6-2 win. The match at No. 2 doubles was tied 4-4 when the point was clinched.

In singles, the Guins won all five of their matches in straight sets. At No. 1, Telzynska picked up a 6-4, 6-2 victory. At No. 2, Cedeno picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win. Yeseniia Ovcharova earned a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles. At No. 5, Partida earned a 6-3, 6-2 win and at No. 6, Line Greyling cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win.

Mercyhurst picked up a win at No. 4 singles, with a three-set victory.
