Dockery Ties Single-Game Record; Penguins Go 4-1 on Saturday

Youngstown State fifth-year bowling senior Emma Dockery almost experienced a 300 game for the second straight day, and the Penguins went 4-1 on an impressive Saturday at the Big Red Invitational. The tournament is being held at Hollywood Bowl in Lincoln, Neb.

Dockery, who anchored the 300 game in Baker play on Friday that was featured on SportsCenter's Top 10 plays, almost achieved perfection individually in YSU's second match on Saturday. She threw the first 10 strikes before being just right of target on her 11th attempt to leave the 4-pin. Dockery settled for a 289 game, which tied assistant coach Nikki Mendez for the highest individual game in school history.

Dockery's 289 helped YSU post a banner victory over third-ranked Nebraska, 1,159-1,140, and the Penguins earned four wins total on Saturday. YSU is third in the standings based on per-game average with a 216.7 over 25 games of Baker play on Friday and 25 games of traditional play on Saturday.

"The ladies kept the momentum going today and did a great job navigating some challenging matches," said YSU head coach Doug Kuberski. "We are staying focused on our process and having some fun out there. Simple science and being ourselves is the focus heading into tomorrow."

The Penguins opened traditional play with a 1,086-1,043 win over No. 22 UW-Whitewater, and the 19-pin victory in the high-scoring battle with the Huskers followed. YSU suffered its only loss of the day to No. 25 Central Missouri in its third match, 1,084-1,059, but the Guins bounced back to win their last two. YSU beat Valparaiso 1,055-901, and completed traditional play with a 1,095-1,025 win over No. 7 Arkansas State.

Individually, freshman Jade Cote was YSU's highest finisher in 10th place with a five-game set of 1,128. She averaged 225.6 for the day, and she topped out with a career-high 258. Dockery's 289 game carried her to a 1,117 set and a 12th-place finish, and Madyson Marx shot at least 194 in all five games to place 18th with a 1,083 set. Emma Wrenn posted a 1,053 set to finish 22nd, and Kirsten Moore and Lyndsay Ennis combined to shoot 1,073 in the final spot in the lineup. Ennis came off the bench for the final two games and shot 489 for an average of 244.5.

Youngstown State will have two best-of-seven Baker matches on Sunday beginning at 9:45 a.m. Eastern. The Penguins will open the day against Arkansas State, and they will finish their time in Nebraska against UW-Whitewater.
