JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – For the second-consecutive outdoor season, Youngstown State senior Collin Harden placed third in his heat and 10th overall in the 400m hurdles in the first round at the NCAA East Preliminary Round at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida.
Harden is now one of 24 runners who will compete on Friday at 7:55 p.m. with a chance to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The top 12 finishers - top three from the three heats and next three fastest times - will advance to the semifinals in Eugene, Oregon. Collin finished with the 10th fastest time of the evening, clocking a 50.94 in the heat.
Sean Peterson capped his historic 2021 outdoor season by clocking a 1:50.76 in the 800m to finish 27th out of 48 entries at the NCAA East Preliminaries. More impressively, Peterson rose 18 spots in the event after entering the preliminary regional meet ranked 45th.
Sophomore Wyatt Lefker finished 23rd out of 48 entries in the men's pole vault competition, clearing 5.15m on his third and final attempt at the height. His mark matches his second-best mark of the season, dating back to the Northeast Ohio Quad on April 2. Lefker entered the 2021 NCAA Preliminaries continuing to be the sole pole vaulter in YSU history to qualify for the meet, as he qualified in 2019.
Erin Bogard will represent the Penguins during Thursday's competition at the Jax Track in Jacksonville with the women's pole vault completion set for 3 p.m. The Powell, Ohio, native cleared 4.01m vault to not only uplift her previous school record of 3.95m set at the Miami (Fla.) Hurricane Alumni Invitational, but also set a new facility and Horizon League record.
