CORAL GABLES, Florida – Highlighted by a new school record, the Youngstown State track and field teams posted a successful first day at the Miami (Fl.) Hurricane Alumni Invitational, Friday, April 9.
The Penguins tallied eight top-5 finishes, including three event victories during Friday's events.
For a second-consecutive meet, Erin Bogard has set a school record in the women's pole vault, clearing 3.95m on her first attempt at the height. Bogard broke her own record of 3.90m set just seven days ago at the Northeast Ohio Quad while securing an event win.
Earning an victory in the first event of the two-day meet, YSU wasted no time posting strong marks as Noah Weese (56.70m) and Noah Drudy (55.54m) went 1, 2 in the men's javelin. On the women's side, Cambrie Campbell tallied a top-3 finish in the javelin, posting a 39.82m mark en route to her third place effort.
Joe Pfeffer added another top-3 finish for the Penguins, posting a 55.46m hammer throw to finish second in the event.
Clearing 5.05m, Wyatt Lefker took the gold in the men's pole vault. His posting is just shy his YSU school record set at the North Carolina State Raleigh Relays of 5.15m.
Terron Taylor and Grant Moore posted top-5 finishes in the men's high jump, finishing third and fifth, respectively. Terron cleared 2.00m on his second attempt to tie his personal-best mark, while Grant, on his third attempt, cleared 1.90m.
Olivia sits in fourth place out of 12 entries in the women's heptathlon following the first day of action, scoring 2900 points through four events (100m hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200m dash). She reached as high as third place on the day. The event will conclude with the long jump, javelin and 800m run.

YSU is back in action tomorrow to wrap-up the Hurricane Alumni Invitational. Saturday's events will get underway at 2 p.m. with the men's discus throw, with running events to commence at 2:20 p.m. with the 800-meter run of the women's heptathlon.
