Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Youngstown State baseball team got a complete game shutout from Collin Floyd to earn a 4-0 win in game one before falling 20-8 in game two of a doubleheader against Wright State on Saturday at Eastwood Field.

YSU is now 10-12 overall and 5-6 in Horizon League play while Wright State is 13-7 overall and 13-2 against the conference.

Game 1 Recap

Floyd scattered five hits and struck out nine batters over seven scoreless innings in his second complete game shutout of the season to lead the Youngstown State baseball team to a 4-0 victory over Wright State in game one of Saturday's doubleheader at Eastwood Field.

With the victory, Youngstown State put together its first five-game winning streak since 2007. The Penguins improved to 10-11 overall and 5-5 in Horizon League play while Wright State dropped to 12-7 overall and 12-2 in league play.

Floyd recorded a strikeout in each of the first five innings and in six different innings overall as he picked up his third win of the season. He struck out the side in the top of the first inning and he retired the side in order in the fourth. With his nine strikeouts, Floyd moved in front of Penguin greats Dave Dravecky (251) and Phil Klein (258) into second place on the YSU all-time strikeout list with 260 in his career. He needs just six more punch outs to break Aaron Swenson's career record of 265, which has stood since 2010.

The Raiders outhit the Penguins 5-4, but YSU made their four hits count. Turner Grau hit a two-run home run during YSU's three-run fourth inning and Blaze Glenn notched an RBI single in the sixth. Jeff Wehler and Steven D'Eusanio also recorded base hits in the contest, and Wehler scored a pair of runs and stole two bases.

The Raiders threatened in the top of the second inning as Sammy Sass and Gehrig Anglin each singled and Jay Luikart walked to load the bases with one out. However, Floyd struck out Alex Alders and Konner Piotto to get out of the jam unscathed.

Wehler led off the bottom of the fourth with a single and advanced to second on an ensuing error. He then stole third and scored on a throwing error by Piotto. After D'Eusanio reached with a two-out single, Grau sent his two-run home run over the wall in left field to put YSU ahead 3-0.

The Penguins added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth to produce the final tally. Wehler drew a leadoff walk and stole second before Phillip Glasser also walked. Pinch hitter Trey Law advanced the runners 90 feet with a sacrifice bunt and Grau drew a two-out walk to load the bases. Glenn followed with an RBI single up the middle that plated Wehler.

Wright State starter Bradley Brehmer suffered the loss after allowing three runs on three hits and striking out seven batters over five innings. Logan Tabeling was responsible for one run on one hit and three walks in one inning of relief.

Damon Dues had two hits and two stolen bases to pace the Raiders offensively.

Game 2 Recap

Wright State scored 12 runs over the first four innings on its way to a 20-8 victory over the Youngstown State baseball team in game two of Saturday's doubleheader at Eastwood Field.

The Raiders scored once in the first, three times in the third and eight times in the fourth to build a 12-0 advantage, and the lead would remain at least 11 runs for the remainder of the game. Wright State jumped in front 1-0 in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Zane Harris. The Raiders got an RBI double from Piotto and a two-run homer from Alders in the top of the third to push their lead to 4-0. Wright State's eight-run fourth inning featured a two-run single by Piotto, an RBI double by Alders and an RBI single by Quincy Hamilton.

Youngstown State got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Glasser drew a leadoff walk and scored on an RBI single by Grau. The Raiders responded with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning on the strength of a two-run double by Alec Sayre.

Wright State added four runs in the top of the seventh as Anglin hit an RBI double, Julian Greenwell scored on a wild pitch and Harris hit a two-run homer to right field. YSU plated three runs on three hits in the home half of the seventh as Law delivered an RBI double and Braeden O'Shaughnessy recorded a two-run single.

The Raiders would tack on two more runs in the top of the eighth inning on a two-run double from Justin McConnell. The Penguins scored two runs of their own in the bottom of the eighth when Glenn hit a leadoff triple down the right field line and Bucko followed with a two-run blast to right field. YSU scored two more times in the bottom of the ninth to account for the final margin. Bucko brought home a run with a sacrifice fly and Swarmer notched an RBI single.
