Rugola Places Ninth to Lead Penguins at Shirley Spork EMU Invitational

Junior Danae Rugola finished tied for ninth to lead the Youngstown State women's golf team to an eighth-place finish on Tuesday in the Shirley Spork EMU Invitational at Eagle Crest Golf Club in Ypsilanti, Mich.

The Penguins finished the event with a three-round team total of 932. YSU posted rounds of 307 and 312 on Monday before concluding the tournament with a 313 in the final session on Tuesday.

Rugola, who earned her second consecutive top-10 finish, tied for ninth with a three-round score of 225 (71-80-74). The junior's season-low, one-under-par 71 in the first round featured 15 pars and two birdies. After a bogey on No. 18, Rugola made par or better on each of her final nine holes to fire a two-under-par 34 on the front nine. In the final session, Rugola carded 10 pars and three birdies as she made par or better on eight of her final nine holes.

Lizzie Saur tied for 27th with a three-round 233 (78-79-76). The freshman's first-round 78 featured 13 pars while her second-round 79 included seven pars and a pair of birdies. Saur's final-round 76 featured 12 pars and a birdie on the par-four No. 15.

Christina Lewis recorded a three-round total of 234 (78-75-81) to finish tied for 29th. The junior's first-round 78 featured 11 pars and a birdie on the par-three No. 6 as she made par on seven of her first eight holes. The Wexford, Pa., native fired a one-over-par 37 on the back nine during the opening round of play. Lewis' second-round 75 included nine pars and four birdies as she made par or better on eight of her final nine holes.

Playing as an individual, Ally St. Clair finished tied for 51st with a three-round 243 (81-79-83). The junior's first-round 81 featured eight pars and a birdie on the par-four No. 3. St. Clair's second-round 79, which marks her low round of the season, included 10 pars and another birdie on No. 3.

Tori Utrup finished 56th with a three-round score of 247 (80-85-82). The senior's opening-round 80 featured 10 pars and a birdie on the par-three No. 4. Utrup's final-round 82 included seven pars and a pair of birdies that came on No. 4 and No. 10.

Jenna Vivo posted a three-round 250 (88-78-84) to finish tied for 59th. The senior's second-round 78, which matched her low round of the season, featured nine pars and two birdies as she fired a one-over-par 37 on the back nine.

Eastern Michigan won the tournament title by two strokes over Central Michigan with a three-round team total of 899. Western Michigan's Alissa Fish earned medalist honors by 11 strokes at six under par with a three-round 210 (69-71-70).

Youngstown State will continue its fall schedule on Oct. 18-19 with the Dayton Flyer Invitational at NCR Country Club in Kettering, Ohio.
